Onboarding

Onboarding connects your local agent to an inference gateway. For API-key setup, have your gateway key ready before opening the session.

First connection

1. Run taocode in your project. If a connection flow does not open, enter /connect.
2. Choose the gateway you have an account with.
3. Paste its API key and complete the connection flow.
4. Use /models to select an available model.

The exact prompts can vary by installed version and existing credentials.

Where the key is stored

Gateway keys are stored under tao-chutes or tao-targon in the authentication file. See Configuration for default locations.

Connect a second gateway

Open /connect again and add the other gateway. Its models become available when the credential and gateway access are valid. Choose the full reference to decide which gateway handles a task.

Replace an expired key

Reconnect the affected gateway with a current key. Stored credentials can take precedence over environment variables, so exporting a replacement key alone may not update the active connection.
