Getting started

Set up taoCode

Set up taoCode, connect a Bittensor gateway, and choose a model. If you already have a binary installed, you can go straight to connecting a gateway.

01 / Set up

Get taoCode↗

Installer coming soon

The public installer is not available yet. Download instructions will be posted here when it’s ready.

Already have a binary?

Make sure it is on your PATH, open a new terminal, and check the available commands.

taocode --help

Working from source?

From your taoCode source checkout, use its declared Bun version to install dependencies and launch the development CLI.

bun install
bun run dev

Source access is required for the development setup. It does not install a global binary. See the installation guide for details.

02 / Connect

Connect a gateway↗

Start with an API key from Chutes. Explore other gateways for more options. Run taocode and enter /connect, or set a key in your shell.

macOS / Linux shell

export CHUTES_API_KEY="your-key"

Windows PowerShell

$env:CHUTES_API_KEY = "your-key"

For Targon, use TARGON_API_KEY. Shell variables apply to the current session. How credentials are resolved →

03 / Build

Run your first task↗

Open a terminal in your project and list the available models. Choose a reference returned by your CLI for a small task you can review.

taocode models
taocode run --model tao/chutes/Qwen/Qwen3.8-27B-TEE "Add tests for utils.ts"

The model reference above is an example. Availability depends on your gateway and account.
